However, it may try to counter by attacking at the exact same time the wolf bites, which may cause bone break (depending on the target). This makes the target become fairly disoriented, especially if there are a lot of wolves. Another common strategy, mainly used on other predators such as kelenkens, is to have all of the wolves run around the target, before (one at a time), sprinting at it and biting it, all without stopping. When hunting, a common strategy is to have half, if not most wolves latch onto the target, slowing it down, while the rest proceed to regularly bite, effectively wearing down the prey. Since dire wolves are generally on the weaker side when it comes to carnivores, many players like to form packs in order to boost their’s and other players’ chance of survival. It is the first animal to be fully rescripted, with the tule elk following not too long after.Ĭommunity and Strategy Hunting and Fighting The dire wolf has new sounds, new animations, and a new pack hunting ability. Adult wolves are also very well built for solitary survival, and can get by fairly easily on their own if they know where to look for food. When there aren’t any young in the pack, it is rather rare that adult wolves stay in one spot for a long time, and will often move to locations with more prey and/or less predators. In packs, they are responsible for hunting and protecting younger wolves, as well as making sure other predators are kept at bay. There is no current info about dire wolf sub-adults.Īdult wolves are fully grown and have reached their full potential in stats. This life stage is not out yet and has not received any updates. Mainly due to the fact that it has been in development since early 2022 and has only received a couple of updates, it is suspected by many that the release is still quite a long while away, and shouldn’t be expected anytime soon. As far as the community knows, the model itself is currently complete and coloured, but still needs to be rigged, animated and scripted. This life stage isn’t out yet, though it is a current focus with the developers, according to the roadmap. Out of the three planned life stages, only one is currently in the game, being the adult version.įullbody picture of the uncoloured wolf pup model Unfortunately like the Leucistic skin, it also has a bit of trouble with camouflage because of the large amount of white. Due to the large amount of white on the pelt, the Piebald variation usually sticks out from the pack, drawing a lot of attention. It is also the only wolf skin with an asymmetrical pattern, thanks to the uneven piebald patches. Displaying a very pleasing array of colours, it is the only dire wolf skin that has heterochromia, or two different coloured eyes. Very much resembling an Appalachian wolf with white patches, the Piebald variation has, well, the piebald mutation. One of the most desired skins in the game is the Piebald skin, which can only be obtained directly from a developer by winning one of the occasional art contests in the official Cenozoic Survival discord. Only being able to blend in when the grass is yellow, it is rather unfortunate that at all other times the Leucistic skin sticks out like a sore thumb and easily attracts the eye of stronger predators. Although many players like to use the Leucistic skin, most tend to use the Melanistic variation simply due to the fact that it blends into the environment better than any other skin, and pretty much disappears in the shadows. Unlike the free skins, the player gets to choose whichever skin they want to use, and don’t need to constantly reset until they get the one they like. Purchasable for 500 robux, two new gamepass skins become available: Leucistic and Melanistic. Although the skins don’t provide any extra boosts and are purely for cosmetic purposes, many players tend to repeatedly reset until they get their favourite variation. Each player has a 20% chance of getting one of the five coats upon joining the game, with the Pampean being the fan favourite. There are currently five different free dire wolf coat patterns in the game: Persian, Californian, Canadian, Appalachian, and Pampean. There are five coat pattern variations for the default skin, two variations available in a gamepass, and one special skin, given out by the developers.
